So Wednesday my friend and I decided to go to Little Five Points to shop around. I think I live in a weird place in comparison to some of you, but I have pretty close access to highway 78 so I just go to L5P that way. Anyway, I'm driving along with the flow of traffic and we're chatting it up, I mean I tend to not pay attention to the speedometer when theres lots of other cars around me, and we're like "Oh look, cops sitting around". (I find this to be more irritating than usual, because lately Dekalb County has been giving away tickets for EVERYTHING, they just kind of sit around and pick out people [Like my dad, for no seatbelt. Random!]. As tore up as part of that area can be, I would think they have MUCH better things to do than sit around.) Anyway, so I look in the rear view and there's one with lights flashing coming on the road and I'm just like, "I bet they're coming to give me my first ticket". Lo and behold, they did. So this cop got out of his cruiser all weird (I've never been pulled over for anything serious, so maybe they are all like this?) and like inspects my backseat instead of just coming to my window where i'm sitting there like, Uh hello?
"I clocked you going 82 in a 55, any reason you were going so fast?"
Gee, I don't know, perhaps I wanted to give you a reason to search my trunk for the kilo I have sitting back there and all the open containers in my backseat ( That's a joke.) Does anyone ever have a real reason unless it's an emergency? But I was honest and said I wasn't really paying much attention to the speedometer - Perhaps that sounds like a bad thing to say but I'd rather look at the road and the idiots on it. Anyway, he slowly walks back to his car after inspecting my backseat AGAIN, and then we're sitting there for like ten minutes, and I was like "He's totally writing me a ticket, what a douche" *chuckle* And finally he walks back, after inspecting my backseat for a third time, and makes me sign the citation and then doesn't really tell me anything about it and leaves. GREAT HELP! I wasn't really worried about the ticket, I thought I just paid it and went on with life. I have friends that have lost their licenses, but they drive pimped out bmw's and muscle cars, so of course they would, they always drive a million over the speed limit. So I didn't think I was that bad off. That goes to show you what I know. So Later I find out things get bad when you're 24mph over, and I was clearly 27 so that's great. And then another friend tells me I'm going to be mailed a court date later where I will either lose my license and pay a lot of fines, or take a $90 class. It is my first offense, but it is also Dekalb County, aka the worst system ever. So I've been pretty much laying awake every night worrying because I don't know what's going to happen, and because I don't know anything about what I'm supposed to do. I feel like I'm just naive to real life. I will probably have to tell my parents eventually, which will suck, I thought I wouldn't have to. And they will be super pissed and god knows what will happen if I lose my license. My 27 year old brother that still lives with us lost his license, so they're already mad about taking him places. UGH. Life is over if I lose it. I drive at least 30 miles to get to everywhere I need to go, so thats 60mi trip depending where, No ones going to take me anywhere like that, much less pick me up. *STRESSSSS*
So if anyone has some words of wisdom or some knowledge that will help me, I'd be grateful.
I've already learned my lesson.

Geeeeez!! That totally sucks! I fortunatly have never been given a ticket, I got a warning once. Living in Ny for the past few years has helped greatly in the fact that I don't have a car up here! haha If you have to go to court I'd say to just cry. They are always softees when a woman is in tears! hehe
I would go to court. Generally you can talk them down on the speed you were going. I'm sorry this happened! Best of luck though... keep us updated.
The Dekalb cops do not play! I went to Tucker High School way back in the day, so I know what stretch you drive. My parents live off Brockett Road. You must go to Clarkston Campus. Definately plead your case and ask for a reduced charge. Think of it this way, you can at least ask, all they can do is say no and you haven't lost a thing. First offenses are not as bad as you think. You can also call the number on the ticket after a set period of days and it usually tells you your fine or if you need to do something else. By the way, you life won't be over! you made me laugh and quit stressing it won't change a thing and it will soon be a past memory!
Oh my Caitlin...i am so sorry...my husband has had 2 speeding tickets in Henry County going over 20 and both cost us $500.00. I hope nothing like this happens to you. Keep your chin up.
Haha, I appreciate the high hopes. And yeah I'd like to not have quite as a severe fine, I am guilty but I don't think i'm $500 worth of guilt. LOL.
I actually go to the Dunwoody campus despite Clarkston being closer to me. (I'm all over the place in metro Atlanta really). But I know where you're talking about, I shortcut through tucker to get to 285.
Caitlin,
I have a ticket sitting around here somewhere for going through a stop light in Alpharetta. The *&()_ camera took the picture of my car. My husband was driving it. [I did receive one on my own last year from another *^^& camera.]
The cameras don't seem so fair. And I expend a lot of energy that could be put toward something more productive (like watching the road) instead of looking for cameras.
Well...we are on the same side...in a way...lol. I do drive to decatur campus and I live on 400 near dunwoody campus...I did research on the campus teachers and they were much better for my anatomy lab!
