I was just thinking about going to six flags and then I saw this....

This story is tragic and it should of never happened! I wish people would think before they do things..

A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he hopped a pair of fences and entered a restricted area Saturday at Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park, authorities said.

Six Flags officials are uncertain why the unidentified 17-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina, scaled two 6-foot fences and passed signs that said the restricted area was both off-limits and dangerous to visitors, spokeswoman Hela Sheth said in a news release.

Authorities were investigating reports from witnesses who said the teenager jumped the fences to retrieve a hat he lost while riding the Batman roller coaster, said Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce. Three security guards were keeping visitors away from the ride on Saturday.

Police said the ride was going full-speed when the teen was struck. The ride's top speed is 50 mph, according to the Six Flags Web site.

No one riding on the roller coaster was injured, Sheth said. The teen's friend also entered the restricted area but was not injured, Pierce said.

The teen and his parents were at the park with a group from the Oakey Spring Baptist Church near Springfield, South Carolina, police said.

In June 2007, a teenager's legs were severed when cables snapped on the Superman Tower of Power ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky. Doctors were able to reattach Kaitlyn Lasitter's right foot, but she had to have some of her left leg amputated and subsequent surgeries.

State officials blame a faulty cable and slow response by an amusement park ride operator in the accident. Her family is suing Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, claiming the park failed to maintain the ride and equipment and ensure riders' safety. The amusement park has denied liability in court filings.

Reading this post of the current tragedy at six flags increases the fear I have about that place. My husband said that he will never ride in any of those coasters again. I am beginning to see his reasons. It is really a sad story. Six flags is supposed to be a place of fun but it is really turning into a place of tragedy. May the good Lord help us!!

As long as you follow basic safety precautions and use common sense, there's very little chance that you'll even get injured at Six Flags, much less killed. I see nothing that makes this an unpreventable tragedy.

I use to work at six flags. I ran the mind bender. I wlaked the ride every morning and then I would ride the ride before it open to the public. I would ride the rrde the ride with ni lap bar holding me in. I was youn and crazy but the g force held me into the ride and it also force the lap bar down before I made it back into the station. Saying this you have to follow the rules. I hate what happened but it will not stop me from riding the roller coasters. Now the ride were the young lady lost her feet, I don't ride those rides for nothing, the young man made a stupid mistake. He probably got in trouble with his parents about the hat. So when he was walking past the ride he thought it looked as if he would get a chance to get the hat and get away from the ride in time. i grew up in six flags, season passes going back to 1981. Basically my second home and my brother sd that I need stock in the park. LOL .Don't knock it it is all about being smart.

It's tragic, but the kid was stupid, bottom line.
Aside from the point, I don't want to go back to six flags anyway after my last visit this summer. Now you can't ride the rides when you have bags or prizes or anything without buying a locker first. (Yeah, no more cubbies on the loading dock!) WHAT THE HELLLLL!!!??? What a crappy, money-grubbing company.

I feel so sorry for his family. They were at the park with him and from what I understand, his friend saw the whole thing. He was young and he made a mistake. I am just glad that no one else was injured. As far as the other girl goes, I hope the family gets as much money as they possibly can from Six Flags.

I have always been a nervous wreck about Six Flags. I dont ride the rides because i am scared of heights. When i heard of the news on this young man my heart sank for his family. Something that possibily could of been prevented by using a little common sense lead to a traggic accident. My question to myself was...Why didnt someone try and stop this young man from going over a restricted area and being he was with a church youth group where was the group of kids he was to be with at? Such a sad ending to a young life that really had not even started yet.

That is insane! He should have never been allowed to get over those fences. Where is the security? or cameras? It is such a shame when things like this happen, especially when it could have been avoided. Roller coasters are dangerous things and we forget that sometimes. So so tragic.
